Every question we get asked, answered

How much do movers cost in Los Angeles in 2026?

Best Movers LA charges $99/hour for 2 movers and a truck, $139/hour for 3 movers, and $179/hour for 4 movers. Typical totals: studio $200–$300, 1-bedroom $300–$400, 2-bedroom $560–$840, 3-bedroom $840–$1,440, large house $1,440–$1,800.

What is double drive time in California?

California's CPUC requires licensed movers to charge double the driving time between your origin and destination instead of charging travel to/from the warehouse. Example: a 20-minute drive between homes is billed as 40 minutes. It's the law for every licensed mover — companies that skip it are usually unlicensed.

What's included in Best Movers LA's hourly rate?

Truck, fuel, tolls, furniture blankets, shrink wrap, tape, wardrobe boxes on loan, dollies, tools, floor/door protection, stairs, long carries up to 75 ft, and disassembly/reassembly of standard furniture. There are no add-on fees for any of these.

Is there a minimum charge?

Yes — 3 hours at your quoted hourly rate plus double drive time. This is standard across licensed LA movers.

Do you charge more on weekends or at month-end?

No. Our rates are flat year-round, including weekends. Month-end and summer dates simply sell out earlier, so book those 3–6 weeks ahead.

How do I check if a moving company is licensed in California?

Ask for their CAL-T number and verify it on the CPUC website (cpuc.ca.gov); for interstate movers, check the USDOT number on the FMCSA mover search (fmcsa.dot.gov). Unlicensed movers can't legally transport household goods and carry no cargo insurance. Our CAL-T number will be published in the footer the day it is issued.

What insurance covers my belongings?

Basic valuation of $0.60 per pound per item is included free by law. Full-value protection — repair, replace or reimburse at actual value — is available on any move. High-value items (art, instruments) can be itemized for full coverage.

How should I prepare for moving day?

Finish packing before the crew arrives (or book our packing service), reserve elevator/parking if your building requires it (we handle this when notified), defrost the fridge 24h ahead, keep documents/valuables/medications with you, and label boxes by destination room.

Do you move pianos, safes and gym equipment?

Yes — pianos, gun safes up to 1,500 lbs, Pelotons and full home gyms. Specialty items get a flat written price before move day rather than open-ended hourly billing.

Can I leave clothes in the dresser?

Lightweight clothing yes — we shrink-wrap drawers shut. Anything heavy, fragile or valuable should be boxed.

What can't you move?

By law: propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinners, fireworks and other hazardous materials. We also recommend transporting jewelry, cash, documents and medications personally.

How far in advance should I book?

2–3 weeks for mid-month weekdays; 4–6 weeks for month-end, weekends and June–September. Same-day and next-day slots are often available — call before 1 PM.

What if my building requires a certificate of insurance (COI)?

We issue COIs with your property management's exact wording within 24 hours at no charge — standard in DTLA, Marina del Rey, the Wilshire Corridor and most newer buildings.

Do you offer moves for seniors or with extra assistance?

Yes — patient crews experienced with downsizing moves, plus coordination with family members and retirement communities at no extra cost.

How do payments work?

Nothing due at booking. You pay after the move is complete — card, cash or Zelle. A card hold may be taken for same-day bookings. Tips are never required.

What's your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation or rescheduling up to 48 hours before your move window. Inside 48 hours, a fee equal to one hour of your rate applies.
